Library Committee
What We Do
he Library Committee was appointed as a Special Project to provide information about and liaison to the Fairfax County Public Library, the Friends of various Library branches, and library related legislation from the Board of Supervisors and the General Assembly.
Librarians are strong advocates of literacy and knowledge. They are professionals who are trained to offer a variety of topics and issues in their materials collections.
The Library Committee Chair, Daria Parnes, recommends this movie as worth viewing and discussing in our community so that it doesn't happen in our County. It is a ground-breaking movie about librarians and how they are being persecuted for promoting freedom to read.

Library Committee Report for September 2026
Fairfax County Public Library (FCPL) Director, Eric Carzon, is “very thrilled” to announce that County Executive Bryan Hill chose to put a $1.42 million one-time addition to the FCPL FY2027 into his carryover budget package recommendation. It has been well received by the Board of Supervisors (BOS), and on September 15th the carryover budget package was approved by the BOS. These additional monies will bring the FCPL library collection budget for FY27 to $5.1 million, a starting level that has not been seen in more than a decade.
This additional funding will enable the Library to increase the number of titles and copies the library purchases for each of the 22 branches. This will better serve walk-in users as well as reduce wait times on the popular titles people request. Also, this additional money will enable the timely purchase of new fiction as well as a wide array of consistently requested fiction and nonfiction that the library has not been able to purchase enough copies of, such as:

Workforce preparedness and career development including job search, resume, and interview guides.

In depth resources for high demand, economically relevant fields such as software development and artificial intelligence.

Nonfiction eBooks in addition to the increasingly popular eBook fiction and best sellers.

Other resources such as children’s materials, world languages, and adult fiction, that have lagged will be brought up to date.
Obtaining this additional funding in the FY2027 materials budget for almost the entire fiscal year means that library staff can take advantage of publishers’ special offers and make the most out of their purchases.
The library appreciates the continued community support of those who use and value the services offered.
