About the Committees
A Federation Committee is either a standing committee or a special committee. Ten standing committees and five appointed committees are specified under Article VII of the By-Laws. A special committee is appointed either under the By-Laws or under a temporary special purpose decided by the President. A committee member is a volunteer who brings skills relevant to the committee and may be a member of a current Federation community association or any resident of Fairfax County. All Committee chairs are members of the Federation Board of Directors with each Committee having 1 vote.
A Federation Standing Committee is specified in the By-Laws to provide services across Fairfax County that identify critical countywide issues, review proposals by the Board of Supervisors and pending legislation by the General Assembly, recommend and draft resolutions for a Federation position on County and Commonwealth programs, and recommend positions concerning the annual County Executive's budget.
Federation Special Committees provide services within the Federation organization, for Federation member associations, or for the welfare of Fairfax residents. Special committees are appointed to identify specific countywide issues, investigate and report on a specific topic, and recommend and draft resolutions for a Federation position on County and Commonwealth issues.
