Committee members represent Braddock, Dranesville, Mason, Mt. Vernon, and Providence Districts. Representatives from other districts are invited to join the Committee
Meetings
Meetings during 2009-2010 will be held every other month on the second Tuesday of the month at 7:30 pm at the Packard Center, i.e., November 10, January 12, March 9, and May 11.
Committee Activities 2009-2010
- Met with two Cluster Assistant Superintendents at September meeting.
- Visited with FCPS Superintendent Dr. Jack Dale at November 2009 meeting and presented alternative ways to deal with the budget.
- Provided testimony to FCPS Board on the Superintendent's Proposed FCPS FY11 Budget
- Three members participated in various capabilities in meeting with FCSB members seeking advice on ways to improve communication with the general public.
- Attend FCSB Retreats and selected Work Sessions
- Plan to review and comment on the public school related items in the County’s budget.
- Plan to review and comment on the FCSB draft Adopted Budget after the BOS decide on the transfer amount to FCPS.
- Plan to serve as a clearinghouse for recommendations on revisions to FCSB’s operational expectations and measures.
- Continue to track the administrative consolidations actions
- Continue to monitor the "Smart Services Committee" composed of BOS and FCSB members who are reviewing the potential of merging or better coordinating of County and School programs.
- Members continue to serve as Co-chair of the FCSB’s Advisory
- Committee on Student’s with Disabilities, as Co-chair of FCSB’s Human Relations Advisory Committee, and as a member of the Superintendent’s Business and Community Advisory Committee.
- Members also continue to serve as Chair of the Education Committees for the Mount Vernon District Council’s and McLean Citizens Associations Councils, which also may independently provide their group’s testimony on the various FCPS budgets.
- Members also maintain communication with the various FCPS Departments seeking to understand programs and budget impacts and offering recommendations.
- Members also maintain communication with the Fairfax County Council of PTAs and the newly formed Fairfax Education Coalition.
Committee Accomplishments in 2008-2009
- participated in the community budget dialogues
- assessed 180 individual FCPS programs
- reviewed FCPS, State, and Federal education and budget-related documents
- assessed information in support of proposed FCPS administrative consolidation.
- provided analysis of FCPS on the Superintendent’s Proposed budget and the School Board’s Proposed Advertized Budget to the Federation’s Board and presented the Board’s testimony at public Hearings.
- provided extensive input into the Federation's County FY10 budget resolution, especially as related to schools, such as clinic aides, school resource officers, and after-school programs
- held special meeting to learn more about the Advanced Academic Achievement programs (formerly Gifted and Talented)
- represented the Federation on several school Advisory committees.
- met several times with the transportation office and provided advice on bus scheduling.

- Testimony on Superintendent’s Proposed FY08 Budget Testimony in support of the transfer process for unneeded land to BOS in exchange for a $30 million increase in FCPS’s Construction Improvement Plan (CIP) in each of the next 6 years
