The Fairfax County Federation of Citizens Associations and The Washington Post are pleased to announce that John Horejsi, founder of Social Action Linking Together (SALT) has been named the 2007 Fairfax County Citizen of the Year for the Federationís 57th Annual Award. Mr. Horejsi founded SALT in 1983 to influence public policy for individuals and families disenfranchised by economic and social standing. SALT has grown to a network of over 1,000 social justice volunteers. Mr. Horejsiís advocacy has helped passage of Virginiaís Earned Income Tax Credit, and the creation of Homeless Intervention Program, and Temporary Assistance to Needy Families.

The Federation and The Washington Post co-sponsor the annual awards program to recognize outstanding volunteers in Fairfax County. The Citizen of the Year receives an engraved silver cup that passes to each yearís recipient.

As a citizen advocate Horejsiís volunteer efforts have helped shape Fairfax County's current policy on social services with the Fairfax Alliance for Human Services and Advisory Social Services. Horejsi has also been a strong advocate with the Catholic Charities activities focusing on efforts to help the welfare-dependent families, the elderly poor, the incarcerated, the homeless, the working poor and their children.
